All orders begin in our engineering department. SMI uses the latest modeling software including SolidWorks, SheetWorks, and AutoCAD, giving us the ability to open many different file types. The generic types (DXF, STEP, and IGES) are always options.
Once a drawing has been prepared, we use bending software to confirm a part’s design. This software also provides a bending program for our operators; this step cuts down on setup time, improves efficiency, and saves our customers money.
SMI utilizes JobBOSS, our production control software, to efficiently process all facets of our business. From the initial quotation to invoicing all aspects of an order are handled through this system; we also take advantage of data collection which allows for up-to-the-minute job status at our fingertips.
After a part has been engineered and confirmed it moves to our laser programming department where we take advantage of nesting software to ensure each piece of material is cut at peak efficiency. We also have the ability to program bevels into our laser, giving us the capability to produce parts ready for welding.
